30 Weeks and Counting...

Belated Merry Christmas to everyone!!! Hope everyone had a blast :o) For me and hubby, we were blessed to be able to celebrate it with a few friends.

The 1st week of my vacation is almost over but I still have a week left. Been really busy with baby stuff. I realized I'm already about 30 weeks and 1 day so I have 10 weeks more or less before we have the baby. Wow. That's just a little over 2 months from now!!!

Anyways, hubby and I made a good progress with Mikka's nursery. Last time, I posted some pics of the stripes we did on one wall. This time, we're done painting (almost) the rest of the walls so I wanna share some pics.

Also, we're so thankful that a friend of ours gave us a whole bunch of hand-me-downs of her 2 y/o daughter's baby clothes :o) OMG, I didn't expect she's going to give me a lot, but she gave me about 3 boxes worth of clothes!! From 0-3 months up until 24 months!!! It's really an answered prayer for us cuz infant clothes are really expensive. So with all these hand-me-downs, we can go by without having to buy any baby clothes for about a year's worth :o) See the pic below? Her clothes almost occupied 3/4 of our bed, hahah :o)

Thanks Em, for being so nice to my Anikka :o)

And oh, here's a sneak peek of our little angel :o) I surprised hubby for a 3d/4d ultrasound of his daughter this morning as this is my Christmas gift for him :o) We're both so ecstatic seeing her do some stunts (she was lifting her feet up to her face and such). She's flat-nosed just like her mom but I'm still hoping that'll change eventually cuz I really would love for her to look like her dad, hahah :o)

Awww, I'm so surprised how much I love her even if I haven't met her yet.... my bebe... kahit pango (flat-nosed), know that mommy & daddy loves you sooooo much!!!

All About Our Little Mikka

Wooohooo, found some free time to blog!!! :o)

I'm uber excited to post something about what kept us busy for the past few weeks (or months) aside of course from being burried with tonsa work at the office.

So this post is all about our little bebe - Mikka which have been pretty much the center of our world these days...

First off, I want to start with the progress of her nursery. Not too long ago, hubby and I decided we'd be painting one of our rooms for Mikka. We thought we'd like stripes and polka dots so we tried looking for some happy colors for the room. So when that first step was done, of course, the "action" immediately took place :o)

After hours and hours of prepping and taping the walls, touching up the colors that bled under the painters tape, here are some pictures I am just so happy to share with everyone. We're not done yet but we're getting close.

Stripes were only painted on one side of the wall (it's doubly hard for us to do the stripes because of our textured wall). The rest of the walls will be painted with brown and some light greenish shade so it wouldn't be too pink all over the room. So some pictures you'd see would just have the brown paint. After we tape the ceiling, then we can start painting the green. Hmmm, I'm really excited!!!

I'm soooo proud of my hubby for getting this done for his daughter (and for the wifey as well, haha)

Ok, 'nuf with the room paint....

Since we're almost about 75% done with the room, we started looking for cribs and beddings as well.

We realized it's easier (and cheaper) to buy online. So what we do is when we find something we like online, we go to the store to inspect the item and make sure they meet our expectations. Then if we're happy with it, we order online :o)

I had a hard time choosing the bedding for Mikka's crib. Literally, I spent hours comparing and looking through the designs available. Hubby didn't care much except that his condition is that I have to choose those that have animal designs. So we ended up getting this:

No, not the whole set as what you see in the picture. We just got the 6-pc bedding set that came with the fitted sheet, comforter, dust ruffles, bumper, diaper stacker and window valence. I didn't want everything to be the same so we just got the basics :o) Oh, we got the light switch plate and matching border - but that's about it. I'm still thinking how to incorporate the "polka dots" on the wall so I don't want to overdo the animal theme of her crib bedding.

We also found the best value crib - where else but from Ikea, haha :o) It's uber cheap ($130) so I was not really expecting too much when hubby suggested it. He was looking at the reviews for cribs and he found the Ikea Hensvik crib. So immediately, we went to Ikea and checked it. Wow, I was impressed! It's really sturdy for a convertible crib. It's not the prettiest crib out there, but hey, I was sold!

I sooo love white cribs... so clean looking and matches the bedding we chose perfectly!

Now the one that I would have chosen is this cutie... however, for the price ($400), I think it's too much... not practical at all. Though it's really really really beautiful.

So there... some summary of what's going on huh? Well, I'm on my 7th month, 3rd trimester.. so time's running real fast. I'm just scared that we wouldn't have the time to get things ready before our Mikka decides to come out.

Anyways, I would like to apologize to my blogger friends that I haven't been able to blog hop and visit their respective blogs. I haven't even replied to those who left messages here. So sorry. Since I'm off for a 2 week vacation starting next week, I'd definitely make it up to you gals.

Take care.

Still Alive and Kickin'!!!

Hey, just thought I'd update my blog today and let my fellow bloggers who are wondering whatever happened to me that I'm still here alive and kicking :o)

I've been really busy at work for the past month and by the time I get back home, I'm already too pooped to blog...

Also, there were tons of stuff that happened/are happening, I can't even figure out where to begin - 1) My brother proposing to his super sweet girlfriend. 2) My younger sister moving to Texas, left Singapore for good and married her fiance. Same reason why me and hubby went to Austin, TX last week to stand as witnesses to their civil wedding. 3) Thanksgiving weekend... etc.

I'd post some pics when I get my sister to send me my camera which I left in my brother-in-law's car in Texas. Bummer.

Anyways, the 4-day Thanksgiving weekend is almost over. Though we didn't get to go anywhere else, I would say, it was pretty productive and fun for both me and hubby. We finally got to finish preparing Mikka's room for our stripes and polka dot theme. Painting stripes is not easy as it seems. Taping the pattern alone takes lots of time and patience. So finally, we got the taping done and started painting the dark pink's :o) Hopefully, we can get everything done by December so we can start buying stuff for Mikka.

Then of course, the rest of our weekend was spent with both me and hubby unleashing the inner rockstars in us :o) We got the recently released Guitar Hero World Tour for Wii and we're sooooo addicted!!! I'm the drummer and hubby's the guitarist :o) It's just soooo much fun doing something different with hubby --- great bonding time for couples, if you ask me.

I've been watching other GBWT fanatics in YouTube and I realized how much I suck at it, hahaha :o) This guy, for example, was playing the expert level on the drums. It's amazing how he'd hit every single note and I can really hear the beat of the drums!! He was using Rock Band drumset here. I hope one day, I'd be as good as this fella.

We were super thorned between getting Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band II. But the latter wouldn't be released until towards the end of the year for Wii console. Too bad cuz RB2 has better songlist. But we just can't wait that long anymore so we ended up getting GHWT instead. See, at least even if I'm not musically inclined, I can still play the drums even through just games like this :o)

So there, that was what's going on with me.... hahha!

Belated Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Hope you were able to find great deals on Black Friday sales :o)

Hi, I'm a Mac...

I was so excited for a friend of mine who just got his first mac ever! He got the latest Macbook Pro 15" last week. I'm just sooooo jealous!!!!!! Last time I talked to him, he's loving it the more he gets himself familiar with it. So he officially called it quits with his T42, ha!

Heeee, I get really happy & excited whenever I get to find out about someone shifting from PC to Macs, heheee, I dunno. Just thought having other options out there when it comes to computers is way better than having to stick with the same 'ol thing for the longest time. Where's the fun in that? Right?

Anyways, I was telling him that he should checkout the Apple Downloads section right away because it's one of my favorites - tonsa applications available (some are free, some are shareware) . For me, it's one of the coolest thing ever!! I'm sure there's also something equivalent for PC users as well, however, I'm not aware of it as of this writing.

Actually, there are other websites he can go to to get free mac games as well aside from the Apple Downloads website. I have a few mac games installed on my iMac but I seldom use them at all. I'm sure my friend at work wouldn't mind checking them out. Well, he's single so he has all the time in the world for all these kinda stuff. I used to have time for things like these as well, but since I got married I have to balance my time smartly these days, ha!

I remembered eons ago, the only game I get to play on my PC was solitaire - just to get passed by boredom. Years had passed and now, I didn't even realize that they also have this spider solitaire for mac available!!! Goodness.

Well for my friend, M, who aside from enjoying his iPhone is also adoring his new Macbook Pro, welcome to the dark side of the force man!!! Congrats on your new toy :o) You're officially a Mac now, hahaha :o)

Baby Mine

Last night, hubby popped in the original 1941 Dumbo Disney movie. Last time I've seen it, I was still a little girl. I can't even remember the storyline anymore so I thought watching it again is not a bad idea after all.

When Dumbo's mom was ostracized because she tried to defend him from the kids who were trying to provoke and make fun of her baby, she was chained and locked into a separate "cage". So she was taken away from Dumbo. It was a very sad scene that I ended up sobbing and crying like a big baby (while my husband was laughing soooo hard that I was being emotional about it, ha!)

Please tell me that it's not just the prego hormones that kicked in last night.... this scene is the saddest I've seen in a cartoon movie. Come on peeps, tell me if this doesn't make you shed a tear or two as well... heeee... (naghanap ng kakampi)

I love the song... makes me think about this little kiddo growing inside me...

Drama Episode

Goodness, I just gotta blog about this...

Last Saturday, while hubby was still asleep (I usually get up early most of the time), I decided to kick-off my set chores for the day - clean up the kitchen and mop the floor to begin with...

While I was mopping, I dunno what happened that I started crying my heart out. The kinda cry that is non-stop, with matching hiccup-y snort (super hikbi galore)... weird.

Hubby came out and asked me what was wrong and I just can't explain... so he just understood that it's one of those pregnancy dramas :o) Thank goodness he's very supportive and understanding. He was just there hugging and consoling me.

It's kinda funny now that I think about it, but that day, I felt so devastated without any reasons at all.

Oh... the joys of pregnancy...

Sunday, November 2, 2008

Hubby and I got tired of sweeping the floor everyday to clean after Chewy's hair. Yeah, he sheds a lot!! I'm not sure why Skye doesn't shed as much though she's pretty hairy too.

So we decided to finally end all this crap and this is what we did :o)

Even if he looks funny, I'm sure he's relieved as well that he's a ton lighter now. If we weigh the amount of hair we shaved from him, it'll be probably weigh 10 lbs!!!

This of course, is his "before" picture...

We're still thinking if Skye needed some trimming as well. I remembered last year, I took her to Petsmart to get her hair cut and regular grooming. It was pretty expensive so that was the last. Same reason why we decided we'd do all their grooming ourselves - cheaper and less stress for them.

This was how she looked like after her summer look 2007 :o) This picture still cracks me and hubby up, heeheheeeeee :o)

And this is her now after more than a year of looking weird and funny with her uber short coat :o)

Could Have Been in Disney World Florida

About this same time last year, hubby and I planned on having our next escapade. I would have loved to explore European countries eventually, but I thought sticking locally for the meantime would be as enjoyable as well (not to mention, cheaper!).

One of the places hubby and I would love to go to is Disney World :o) Yeah- in Orlando, Florida! Where else is the perfect place to celebrate our wedding anniversary but in the Happiest Place on Earth???!!!!

It's our church wedding anniversary today and so last year, we thought we'd plan on celebrating our 3rd anniversary traveling to places we would love to go to. So Disney World was our supposed-to-be-target for this year's celebration. The best time to go there is just about after Thanksgiving when people just came from traveling. Plus, during Thanksgiving, Disney World would have just started their Christmas/Holiday theme that could have made the place more magical than ever! It's just a dream for me to be there during Christmas season. Oh maaan, my imagination is all over the place right at this very moment...

I've actually been looking for travel guides and tips on how to make the most out of our stay there without breaking the piggy bank - yep, as early as November last year! And as usual, travel sites like (my favorite ever) have always been indispensable to people like me who loves the convenience of planning every detail through a click of a mouse :o) I would always find uber good deals on air tickets, hotels, land transportation - even for last minute travels!

Part of our "Places to see" list are Alaska, Australia, Japan, New Zealand. European cruise is also a great idea, but maybe after we explore the Schengen countries on our own :o) Oh maaaan, it's soooo nice to think about the endless possibilities if we're not only limited financially. Times these days are hard so every spending has to be taken into consideration.

Anyways, when are we going, you might ask. Well, after finding out that we're pregnant, all travel plans had changed. We could have gone even if we're 5 months on the way however, what's the point of going there without enjoying every single ride? I would think there are only certain rides that preggers are allowed to. Bummer.

So that's the reason why we decided we'd wait until our little chocnut Anikka is big enough to appreciate the magic of Disney World. That means mommy and daddy have another 5 to 7 years of saving up for this anticipated and long overdue vacation. I read from another travel resource that the best age to bring kids to Disney is when they turned 5. Anything before that might just be a total waste of time. First, they wouldn't remember, second they wouldn't appreciate everything in there. Might as well wait for them to grow up a bit.

No regrets though... Anikka's the best thing that ever happened to us this year... Disney World could definitely wait for a few more years :o)

To my hubby, happy happy happy 3+ year anniversary! Anikka, Skye, Chewy and of course, mommy love you more than you'd ever know. No Disney World for us this year alright, but nothing could be more worth it than having our very own princess growing beautifully in my tummy :o*

What's In A Name?

Wooohooo, hubby and I finally finally finally agreed on Anikka's full name :o) Remember last time we were still not sure what Japanese middle name we like that starts with an "M"? So now, we found a not-so-common Japanese name for her--- "Marishi"!!!!

We bump into some website about Japanese gods/goddessess names and got interested with Marisha-Ten or Marishi-Ten. "Ten" means he/she's a god, so we took that out. John prefers Marishi than Marisha because for some other language, the name Marisha means "bitter". Plus Marishi sounds more Japanese-y (kinda like Oishi, haha).

So now, our little bebe's gonna be-- "Anikka Marishi Goya".... I sorta like it :o)

The first thing people ask after finding out bebe's gender is if we already chose a name for her. The 2nd question they normally ask is what's the meaning of it. Yeah... so I guess it's not enough to just choose an arbitrary nice sounding name... it looks like it has to have some meaning behind it. Susmio.

So here goes the meaning of our little chocnut's name:

Anikka --> grace, gracious, favor
Marishi --> ray of light, Japanese goddess of heaven, sun & moon

I asked hubby as well if it would be ok to call her Mikka as her nickname. I think he's still thinking about it. Nikka or Nikki would be too common already so I was thinking what would be a nice nickname that would be a combination of her first and middle name... so I thought of Mikka. Haaay... I guess this is how mommies think, hahaha :o)

Ain't it obvious we're super excited? Grabs, we already chose a name for her!!!

Already A Troublemaker...

Sorry everyone if I haven't had a chance to reply to your messages nor bloghop during the past few days... thanks for visiting my blog still :o)

Anikka here is already a troublemaker at 21 weeks. Last Monday, hubby rushed me to the OB triage where they admitted me for about 4 hours. I was in severe abdominal pain - we were super scared we thought Anikka's going to come out! This little goofball...

I started feeling the pain in my pelvic area Saturday afternoon. I was still doing ok back then since I could handle the sharp stabs on my back and my lower abdomen. Then come midnight, it progressed to a very unbearable constant pain on my pelvic bone. It hurts so bad I can't even pee. I thought I was having some bladder infection but heck, this feels worse than that! It feels like Anikka's pressing hard on my bladder and pelvic floor - super painful!!!!

I called the 24 hours nurse line from my OB's office and she told me that I should make sure I drink tons of water (4 big cups in an hour) and if that didn't help, to go to the hospital for immediate medical care.

Since I could still handle the pain, I didn't go to the hospital. I thought maybe it could get better after a day. But oh maaan, I was wrong. We waited until Monday to go to the hospital. They monitored Anikka's vitals, my contractions and checked me if she's getting lower already. So thank goodness, they didn't feel her head, she's not coming out!

They also took my urine sample to check for possible bladder and kidney infection --- nada... negative! Everything looked normal, no bleeding, no fever, vomitting, change in discharge etc...

At the end of the day, they just told me it could just be the normal round ligament pains that pregnant women experience at this stage. I didn't buy it just because they can't explain the burning feeling while I pee. There has got to be an explanation to this... driving me nuts!!! They also told me to just take Tylenol (and I did) but that didn't help with the pain as well.

It's been almost 4 days now and it's still excruciating to pee and my lower abdomen feels like I'm-going-to-have-my-period-anytime kinda thing. So this morning, I went to see my OB and she told me what I've been suspecting, Since I have tiny pelvis, that I could be having pelvic separation.. thus the lingering lower abdominal pain. But that didn't explain why it's burning when I use the bathroom.

I need Dr Gregory House to make some sense to all these things!!!!!

Speaking of House, did anyone see last night's episode? What's up with that smooching action between him and Cutty?? Uhmmm... I wasn't thrilled at all!

Polka Dots & Stripes!

For the past few weekends, hubby and I were occupied cleaning up the other room to make way for Anikka's nursery! Whoohooo!

We've been looking around for room colors and ideas that are not screaming "I'm a baby girl" too much. Though I must admit that I'm definitely partial choosing girly colors of course, hahaha :o)

So we finally thought we'd paint one side of the room in stripes and the 3 other sides a combo of light green and brown (and then add polka dotty accents along the border later on).

Thank goodness for VOC-free paints (almost odor-free) that makes painting more fun. I hate the chemical fumes from paints so I never imagined myself doing any painting jobs at all. So we bought sample cans of the colors that we like and started messing up with one of the walls. It's actually super fun!

Here are some photos I took. Hopefully, we could get the nursery done soon :o) For more pics, check them here.

We also found some nursery designs online that kinda look pretty cool as well :o) We originally thought we'd use square patterns vs stripes but we realized squares could be harder. So here are some inspirations we found in the beginning. Maaan, these are just pure labor-of-love.

Where Are My Toes??!!!!

I was looking at my tummy the other day and I got the shock of my life--- at 21 weeks, I can no longer see my toes unless I lean forward!!!! Goodness, I'm soooo big!!! Waaaaaahhhhhh!!! :o(

Chunky But Funky 80's Mix

Hubby used to be a radio DJ when he was in Hawaii. His show was all about 80's music. Even if his line of work now doesn't even come close to that, he still continues his passion with mixing music and doing a bit of DJ gigs during weekends.

Last time we were home in Oahu, he took me to the radio station he used to work at and he introduced me to his DJ friends at the station. They even invited him to their show. I remembered I was just staring at him in awe while he's live on-air :o)

The other day, he finally uploaded that 80's mix that was keeping him busy whenever me and little bebe don't bug him :o) Anyhoo, I just thought I'd post here his latest mix. I thought it's pretty cool (of course, I'm his #1 fan anyways, hahah!)

If you like 80s music, hope you'd enjoy this :o)

Hubby Trying To Be Funny

My husband cracks me up big time. He has this way of making me laugh my heart out from some simple blab to some jokes he would just spontaneously blurt out of nowhere.

He really has this funny bone in him - that or I have a very shallow sense of humor. Irrespective, he still makes me laugh most of the time, and that's the bottomline :o)

Here are some scenarios I remembered for the past few days that kept me cracking up.

I. The other day, I showed him pictures of our friend Izy's newly born baby (congrats sis for a very beautiful baby girl!). Hubby, of course, was super ecstatic seeing the little cutie (plus he must have imagined having his very own by March of next year). He said the baby looks sooo much like her dad. I also told him it would be nice if our little bebe Anikka would look like him as well and he just smiled. I thought that was the end of that topic....

Then while driving, I was on the passenger seat and I noticed him touching and feeling his head and hair. I was just perplexed looking at him, then with this serious look on his face he blurted something like - "What if our little bebe get my big head and tonsa hair? And I have this very thin upper lip and my nose is too small and pointy...." ----- a few seconds of silence and that did it for me... I started laughing!!! I haven't seen him looking so seriously disturbed about his facial features because to him, he always looks "gwapo". So seeing him a bit concerned that his little one would look like him --- wow, took me to another level I tell yah. It was uber funny though as I recall that look on his face, hahaha :o)

II. Another "funny incident" I remembered when we were passing time at the mall after dinner. I saw this yellow boxer shorts hanging on the rack by itself and it's on sale. The design of this shorts was a sad faced "smiley" (as ironic as it is). So I was like "Why would a guy would wanna wear a pair of undies with some sad-looking character???". Then as spontaneous as he is he blurted - "Cuz his nuts are feeling cold!" (sorry for my profanity). Dang... that did it again for me!!! I laughed soooooo hard I just can't stop the whole time we were at the mall!! I know, I know... very shallow of me, huh?

III. Then the other day, as we're getting ready for bed... he started talking to little bebe (as he would normally does before going to bed). I didn't expect what he was about to say but I thought I find it funny:

Hubby to little bebe: "Little bebe, don't be surprised when mommy starts making all this funny sounds like "achuchuchupachupachu... or babababbababa.... or shmoocumshmoocumshmoo..." (I do meaningless baby talks with the dogs whenever I find them so cute and adorable). It only means she loves you very much..."

Then he kissed my tummy goodnight.

That made me laugh cuz the way he did the baby talk was exactly as how I say them. He got the accent and intonation so perfectly me that I didn't realize how stupid I sounded until I heard him say them. Hahahaha :o)

Anyhoo, thank God for all the sweet and funny hubbies that wifeys like me were blessed with. Makes lotsa difference on how I perceive my life and how God makes me feel loved through my husband and all the blessings that came with him from the very moment he asked me to be his :o)

Our "Anikka" Hija

Hubby and I have been thinking about names for little bundle of joy :o) Finally, I was able to convince hubby of the name I really really want if it's a girl... ready for this?------ Anikka :o)

Had our baby be a boy, his dad wants either Anakin or Kahlel. Yeah, sounds familiar right? Now you know what movies and characters hubby is so into. Goodness.

I also thought about a few American & Filipino names before like:

I love either Sinagtala (shining star) and Mayumi (graceful) for her Filipino name . They're so unique and very Pinoy but might be hard to pronounce for some kids. As tempting as it is, but my heart is set to Anikka from the very beginning and hubby likes it too. So Anikka it is!! Wooohooo!

We also wanted her middle name to be of Japanese origin but it's just hard to find a name that would match with Anikka. Plus, we want her middle name to start with an "M". Since here in the states, the child's 2nd name is what they refer to as the middle name whereas in the Philippines, the middle name is the mom's maiden name. So just to avoid confusion, we wanted to have her 2nd name to start with an M since my maiden name starts with it. So our little girl would be Anikka M. Goya :o) - with tbd "M" as of the moment.

Anyways, we're really excited. I hope we could find a nice sounding Japanese name for her pretty soon :o)

Meeting New Pinoy Friends...

I've been meaning to post this for quite sometime already but I've been really tied up but finally I found sometime to blog about this :o)

3 weeks ago, hubby and I met sis Izy and her hubby Meo. They invited us over to her baby shower. Izy is one of my longtime online friends and we've been corresponding through our respective blogs and emails for the past 2 years or so. She's also from Chandler, AZ so imagine my joy that after all these years, we finally had a chance to meet each other in person :o)

It's always nice to meet new Filipino friends here in AZ. Living in CA for a few years, I was so used to seeing lotsa Pinoys in every corner I turn. So when I moved here, I realized there's not much Pinoys around, so I always feel excited whenever there's an opportunity to meet Filipinos around the area.

So anyways, I always feel comfy with this gal so upon meeting her, I felt like I've known her forever. Normally in this kind of situation, medyo shy pa ako sa simula, but this time, it was different. Magaan talga loob ko with her. I think because she's very transparent - what you see is what you get, walang chuvachenes :o)

She's due end of this month and we really can't wait to meet their little bundle of joy - Audi :o) I'm happy that since we're having a girl as well, they can be playmates eventually :o)

Here are some pics I grabbed from her blog. I dunno, I just love this gal to pieces. I also adore one of her dogs - Kittles who is the sweetest lap dog I've ever met in my entire life!!! Too bad we didn't get to hangout with them that long cuz we had to leave early :o(

Thanks again Izy for inviting us over. It's such a pleasure meeting you, your hubby, your uber nice family and your cutie doggies :o)

I still have some more online friends that I've been corresponding with even before I started blogging. We were all planning our respective weddings back then and I'm hoping to meet them in person in the near future. Ann (Phils), Jean (Australia), Che (UK), Weng (Canada), Gracie (Dubai) are just a few my favorite "virtual galfriends" - the wonders of the internet huh? :o)

How To Make Homemade Taho

Taho is a Filipino dessert/delicacy made from soy bean curd, brown sugar syrup and tapioca pearls served warm in the morning.

Taho vendors travel (walking around the neighborhood) from house to house yelling "Tahoooooooooooo!!!!!". I remembered clearly when I was younger, me and my siblings would be bringing our own cups outside so the mamang magtataho could fill up our respective cups. My my my... those were the days, haha :o)

For some reason this morning I have an inkling of wanting to eat some so I desperately thought of some easy way to make it even if I'm miles away from Pinas. Nothing beats the mamang magtataho's version but I think I did a pretty decent job as well making it as close to how I remember it tastes like.

Here are some videos I had making my version of taho. Oh, I ran out of memory card so some videos were cut even if I'm not done documenting my "experiment", haheee! Hope this helps if you want to make your own taho at home when the real thing is way out of reach :o)

A Night with the New Journey and Arnel Pineda

It's been 2 weeks now and I haven't shared our experience after seeing Arnel Pineda & the rest of the Journey band bring down the house in their Revelation tour here in Arizona.

Both hubby and I enjoyed the show though I could only sing a few songs from their repertoire that night. I'm not a total Journey fan, so if not for Arnel Pineda, I could have pass up for this one. But since hubby likes 'em and I wanted to see how AP would perform as well, we decided we'd go.

It's sooo worth it, I totally love the energy of the band and the crowd. I really thought there would be more of oldies than yougsters, but boy oh boy, I was definitely wrong!!! It's a pretty interesting crowd, mind you. Even the lolos and lolas (grandmas and grandpas) were dancing to the tune. Wild!

I uploaded a few of the videos I took:

1) When they were singing "Open Arms"

2) When they were singing "Faithfully"

3) When the members were being introduced to the audience and Arnel Pineda shouted "Pinoy!"

4) When they were about to exit the stage and Arnel Pineday shouted "Mabuhay!"

I really enjoyed the show, though it's a bit short than previous concerts hubby and I have been to. As we exit the pavilion, I was trying to observe and listen to the comments of the people. One said "Wow, I really like the voice of this new guy." One guy also blurted something like "It's amazing how this guy sounded exactly like Steve Perry"...

I like Arnel P. He's definitely one of the dudes who doesn't forget about his roots even after his success. He's definitely proud to be a Filipino and with the rest of the Pinoys in the crowd that night, we're all so proud of him!

I'm A Girl!!!

Here's a couple of ultrasound pics I scanned :o) The first one is bebe's profile and the other one is a shot of how the doctor concluded we're having a girl :o) Nothing protruding out there between her legs, heeeheeee :o)

It's funny there was a time she was moving a lot and was opening her mouth, kinda like saying something, hahaha :o)

So during the fetal anatomy screen, the dr checked almost everything - her face, nose, eyes, ears, size of the head, legs, arms, hands, toes, neck, spine, brain. The dr also checked on her heart, lungs, kidneys, stomach, umbilical cord and my placenta. Then at the end of the whole thing, there's a summary whether all measurements are within the normal range at her gestational age. So everything looked normal according to the dr as she's growing at the right rate. EDD is still set on March 6 :o)

Thank God, what a relief!

It has just started to sink in na talga. This is it :o)

Our Japanese Doll :o)

We're having a girl!!!!!!!

It's soooo heartwarming to actually see the little kiddo moving inside my tummy as the doctor was measuring and checking every vital organ she has. Thank God she's looking healthy and normal, very reassuring that everything's going to be ok.

Though hubby is expecting a boy, he's very happy that everything is looking good with our japanese doll :o) Haaay, totoong totoo na nga to! We're having a baby in a few months!!!!

I haven't scanned the pics yet, but once I got it done, I'd post some here.

Sooooo happy happy happy :o)

Mac & Cheese and My Hubby...

Definitely I'm not a mac & cheese gal. For the longest time that I have been here in the States, I actually never tried one, oh wait, lemme rephrase that - I never dared to try one. I hope I wouldn't be offending anyone who loves this true blue American dish but the idea of eating macaroni and some melted cheese makes me a bit queasy.

My hubby, for some reason, had some "craving" for mac & cheese today. I told him maybe we can try cooking it vs having to buy those ready-to-go instant boxes from the grocery store. So excitedly, he looked for a recipe and found Guy Fieri's version (Mac Daddy Mac & Cheese). Reading the ingredients, I was convinced it's not the same mac & cheese as I've imagined. So after grabbing the ingredients we need, hubby took control over my kitchen.

Anyways, to cut the story short, hubby was able to satisfy his craving after about an hour whipping up the ingredients. I tried it myself and it's pretty good. However, I don't think it's something I would be able to eat over and over again (for health reasons). I just didn't think it's the most healthy food out there. Instinctively, I didn't want hubby to finish the whole batch all by himself so I asked him if he wants to bring the rest at work for his buddies. I kinda felt his hesitation, initially. I was under the impression that he just want the whole thing for himself. Then after further "interrogation", I got to find out the reason why he 's against it---- "It's not a guy thing to be bringing food for his friends".

Whaaaaaat???? That's it? Maaaan, classic example of how different gals & guys think. It's a machismo thing. Guys guys guys (*tsk*)... I find it cute and funny though, hahahaha :o)

Disappointed... a bit...

Sad to say that we didn't get to find out our baby's gender today :o( When we got to the clinic, the Dr said that we have to wait for another 3 weeks just to make sure that little bebe is big enough. By that time, we'd be 19 weeks along the way. Sigh, I should have called and confirmed before going to the clinic so we didn't have to expect too much. One of the problems I can foresee with group practice OBGYN's - not enough handshaking/passdown at times. Bummer.

It's a bit disappointing since we're really looking forward to find out if we're going to have a girl or a boy. Hubby and I have been talking about going through the next steps after finding out the gender of our baby - like what color to paint the room with, filtering the possible names, save up for guns & bats so daddy could protect the baby from boys if it's a girl... those kinda stuff (*funny how dads could become uber protective of their little girls... maybe because they know what boys are thinking - been there done that kinda thing for them... tsk tsk tsk*).

It's all good though, cuz even if we didn't have an ultrasound today, we got to hear our little bebe's heartbeat through the doppler. So surreal - it's like tiny whooshing sounds of the wind. So heart-melting... enough to make up for the disappointment of not finding out if our bebe's going to be a girl or a boy. At least we know he/she's ok inside my tummy and that's what's important more than anything else.

Big Day Tomorrow - 09/18/08!!!

Because we'd find out if our baby is a girl or a boy!!! Woooohoooo!!! We can't wait, I've been dreaming about it, anticipating so much to finally find out :o)

I don't have any preference but hubby wanted to have a boy so much! Ahhh, as long as he/she is healthy and perfectly normal, I'm happy.

Lord, thank you po for the countless blessings.

No, I haven't technically jumped into the LUSH-fanatics bandwagon, but I thought I'd try some of their products anyways. I'm getting frustrated with the facial care I had to force myself to switch to since the beginning of my pregnancy. The products that worked for me before contain ingredients that are not safe for the baby so this leaves me no choice but to look for something organic or something that didn't have anything that would harm my baby.

After about 2 months of using Rare Minerals facial cleanser, I still breakout and it's frustrating me big time. I looked up which products I could safely use while pregnant and thank goodness I came across LUSH.

LUSH are handmade cosmetics with mostly fresh organic ingredients though some products contain minimal synthetic ingredients as well. When you go to their website, they would show the exact ingredients they used for each product. Those in green font are the organic ingredients and those in black are the synthetic ones. The only thing I didn't like is that some of their products contain parabens. I didn't get it cuz a lot of manufacturers these days are trying to stay away from parabens and LUSH, as fresh and organic they seemed to be, still use these harmful ingredients (based off on some studies from UK).

As what I've understood, they're pretty popular in Canada and UK. I'm guessing they're gaining popularity in the US market too. Good thing we have a store not too far from where I live so I checked it out myself before I buy stuff online.

When we got into the store, I was overwhelmed with a lot of "goodies" all over the place. I love the smell of most of their products. Good thing I've already done my research so I know which items to look for and not get distracted with the other stuff I don't need.

So here are the items I was intending to get that day:

1) Angels on Bare Skin - cleanser & exfoliant
2) Breath of Fresh Air - toner
3) Gorgeous - moisturizer
4) Mask of Magnaminty - mask

However, I ended up with some more. Good thing though, I got some of them for free. People from the LUSH store give out samples especially if you're not sure what to get yet. It's the way to go for budget-conscious gals like me. The moisturizer that was intriguing me and has rave reviews all over costs $85 a bottle!!! Duh, who in their right minds would purchase that without trying it first if it works for them or not???? Craziness!!!

Anyhoo, I'd post my reviews on each product I've tried this weekend. I just started using them last week, so I want to make sure I have at least a week to have tried them before giving my share on how they work for me. So far, I'm loving Angels on Bare Skin and the body butter cream called Buffy :o)

Weekend At The Lake

We took our dogs to the lake yesterday for some change in scenery. We decided to have some sort of a mini-picnic as well since we're bringing the dogs for a swim. 'Twas pretty warm and most campgrounds were fully occupied.

We had some fun, especially the "kiddos" :o) Here are some videos of Chewy & Skye having fun on the water :o)

It's 4am and I woke up finding myself crying. I dunno, suddenly, I feel so overwhelmed with things going on with my pregnancy and the responsibilities that come with it. I feel so scared, so unprepared. There's just so many things we have to think of. I'm scared that we would miss something and fail miserably on our new role as parents.

So just to get it out of my system, I just want to babble about the things that are running on my mind that makes me worry a lot. So here goes... in no particular order:

1) Unlike other couples I know, hubby and I are far from our respective families. So I feel like we have to face the challenges of being new parents on our own, with no guidance nor help from them. Plus we don't have that much friends around as well. I'm scared that nobody's going to be here to help us when the baby comes. No maids to do household chores, no yaya's, no lolos and lolas to help us at all. Plus it's stressing me out that me and my mom had a huge fight a few weeks ago and we haven't really settled our differences just yet (I'm going to blog more about this in another entry). Basta bottomline, hubby and I wouldn't be able to count on our respective families to help us out. We're on our own, pretty much. This really makes me sad sad sad.

2) The other day we went to Babies R Us just to kinda get a feel on what are the basic things we and our baby would be needing. Just so we can plan ahead how much we should be saving up so we can buy them before the baby comes - and they're definitely not cheap. Some friends were able to survive with hand-me-downs, which I wouldn't mind as well. However, as what I've mentioned, we don't have our families with us and we only have a few friends so I don't think there's anybody who would be able to share their old baby stuff with us. That means, we just really have to plan to buy everything the baby needs.

3) It's hard to survive here with just 1 income. Both hubby and I have to work so we can pay off the bills, etc. Even if I am entitled for a 6-week maternity leave, my employer would only cover 65% of my salary. You see, my salary is divided to pay off the mortgage, the rest goes to our retirement savings and home improvement budget. That means we have to figure out a way to cover for the 35% that we would be losing when I take my maternity leave. And oh, day care is uber expensive. Last time I checked, it's about $200 a week and could be more expensive for babies less than 6 months old. Plus the fact that I know it's not going to be easy to just let some stranger from day care to take care of our baby, I mean, come on... I was raised having my mom taking care of me and my siblings. I really would love to be a SAHM for a few months and be able to breastfeed but by looking at our current situation, it's very unlikely we could afford for me to stay at home longer than I would have wanted to. I really think that moms & moms-to-be who have a choice to stay at home and could afford it are very very very lucky and blessed.

4) What if there's something wrong with our baby (God forbid) when he/she comes? How would I be able to handle that? Would I be able to accept and love our baby as he/she deserves despite of his/her fate? Am I ready for this kind of challenge? (Oh God, please please please, bless us all expecting mothers to have normal, healthy babies, please Jesus).

5) How are we going to take care of our baby and our 2 dogs????? I'm worried that I wouldn't be able to give them the love and attention they need. When the baby comes, I know I still gotta to walk them plus I would breastfeed and pump milk during the day, plus I have to go to work!!!!!! And no, we are not going to give up our dogs because when we adopted them, we've made a commitment to take care of them thru their lifetime. Would I be able to balance all these responsibilities? What about my role as a wife?

6) Hubby is just sooo cool and very laid back with everything and it irritates the heck out of me. No, I don't want him to panic but I just feel that I plan things ahead more than he does and I hate it!!!!

Haaaaayyyyy.... I guess I just have to have more Faith... I wonder if I'm just making a big fuss out of all these...

One BBQ Weekend & Then Some

Sweeps and I invited a few friends to come over since hubby is itching to have some Pinoy BBQ get together. Too bad a couple of our friends were sick so we decided to just move the get together tomorrow - Labor Day.

Anyhoo, since we already worked hard to marinade the perfect Pinoy BBQ, we decided to try a few skewers and see how they would taste for tomorrow's "event" :o)

I also found some Pinoy hotdogs from the Asian store near our place so we decided to grill some hotdogs as well. I don't normally eat American hotdogs since they're too salty for me. Nothing beats our tender juicy hotdog from Pinas talga :o)

The BBQ turned out really good. At least we know when our friends come over tomorrow, hindi kami mapapahiya (we wouldn't be embarassed) since it's our first time to grill Pinoy BBQ :o)

we marinate the pork butt overnight

skewers were soaked in water for 30 minutes before we thread the pork

hubby sporting a bushy hair (needs a haircut badly!). he prefers charcoal grills than gas or electric so he's happy with the cheap $25 bucks grill from walmart, haha :o)

feeling the role of being the cook for the day :o) what's up with guys and bbq's?

pork bbq with pinoy hotdogs on the grill

turned out really good, tender and moist. good job my sweeps!

Before grilling, hubby and I went to look for some bargains at the mall. We found out that Linens and Things are closing their stores countrywide so we thought they might have some sale going on. Good thing we went and checked it out. We finally got some Cephalon cookware we've been wanting to get for the longest time but they're too pricey. We got some omellette pans and a wok since those are the only 2 we're missing from the anonized non-stick set.

We also got some comfy shoes. Yep, finally, I got my hubby to buy some shoes for himself cuz he's the typical guy who's just happy with 4 pairs (3 casuals and 1 formal). Of course, I got a few comfy cutesies as well which are both on sale from Nordstrom Rack :o) See, my feet and legs get sore really fast these days so I really needed some comfy shoes especially that I walk a lot (yeah, yeah, yeah, some more justification, ha!)

So there goes our Sunday, Happy Labor's Day everyone!!!

PS. Dang, it's September already?????
