Whoah!!!

Time flew that fast I didn't realize it's been sometime since I last updated my blog. A lot of things happened in those past few days that I've been gone.

Hmm, I'm not sure what should I write about first, hahaha :o)

Well, I'm finally sporting a new look now, short hair, with streaks!! It really makes a difference in the morning, I didnt even have to comb it at all. All I have to do is to put a dab of hair gel and blow dry it.. that's it! Easy!!!!!!!!! I haven't had a chance to take my own picture, but yeah, will try to post one pretty soon. Soooo neat and chic!

Well, it's not just me who had plans on making some hairstyle change actually. After I went out this afternoon, I was surprised to my wits that sweeps shaved his hair as well. Hahah, it's super short. It's his shortest hair I've ever seen him with. It's cute though, clean cut. Just in time for summer, heee :o)

Talk about summer... ei, whatever happened to springtime maaan? Just a few weeks ago, we're enjoying the 70's during daytime, now, it's like steaming high 90's!!! Oh spring, what have the people in Arizona did for you to just come and visit in just a short span of time?? I'm not really for summer yet... come back... come back... we need you!!!

Ohhh... by the way, I get to drive a 2007 Jeep Liberty!! Woohooo! How cool is that?!! I've been wanting to get one but it's just not practical. When my car broke a few weeks ago, sweeps had to fix it and we decided we'd rent an economy-sized car that I can use from work, however, when we got to the airport where we'd pick up the rental car, they've run out of small vehicles already. So they upgraded us for free. Initially, they gave us a van. I was really disappointed, I never wanted to drive a van. It's too big and long. I didn't need a big car going to work. Of course, was having tantrums that day that for the very first time in my whole life, I walked out while somebody else is talking to me. The guy from the rental company was trying to explain their side. I didnt hear anything but yaddiyaddiyaddayadda. Good thing sweeps was very patient and eventually, he was able to convince the rental company to switch the van to something else. To my surprise, they gave us a JEEP! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For almost 2 weeks, I've been driving the SUV of my dreams (realistically or should I say, could be achievable), feeling like a queen of the road in my small little world. Hahah :o) Oh, the ultimate vehicle of my dreams is an orange-colored H2 or H3 truck (yeah, this is fantasyland level). But hey, dreams always come free, nothing wrong with it.. heeee :o)

Oh, woohoo, finally, we got Lincoln!!! After the process of interviews and long search, we're now proud parents of 2 mutts who both had been such great pets from the moment we called them ours. Hahah. We changed Lincoln's name to Chewy. Ain't it cute? He's sooo huge (90-lb dog) with his paws bigger than my palm!!!! Since he's sooo furry and big, we thought of Star War's Chewbaka. So Chewy it is!!! It's been 2 days since we had him and every single day his personality keeps on shining through. He's very very adorable, very laid back. He plays with Skye at times but most of the time, he just follows me wherever I go and would just be content lying down with occassional belly rubs :o)

We also got them a double-dog coupler just so in case sweeps is not home yet, I can bring them to the park together or walk them together. Plus, with this we can just do with just one leash. Yesterday, we walked them separately, with both of them pulling, I'm positive I wouldn't be able to handle them at the same time. Until we found this coupler which I didn't know ever existed. Waaay cool, waaaay cool!!!

Got him a Pull-Control harness as well. Skye already has this since she pulls a lot. We're sooo thankful for those who've invented this. With this, I have total control over Skye, the more she pulls, the more she wouldnt be able to walk, har! I think this is really neat way of training dogs not to pull. It's not as bad as the training collar where dogs could choke when they pull hard. This one though, is a pure genius, pet friendly harness :o)

Ok, I think I wrote enough. I'd try to be consistent with my blog this time, it's more tougher catching up on my writing, aheee...

Meet Lincoln

Ha, during the weekend, I've been looking for pets that we could either foster temporarily until they find a home or permanently adopt one. I contacted a few rescue group and the first one who actually called me back is the one from the rescue group I used to volunteer at.

They have a dog named Lincoln. He's a huge boy, 2 yr old collie/shepherd mix. I'm just not too sure if he'd get along with Skye as she prefers to play with smaller dogs. We were interviewed last night and this coming Sunday, they're going to bring him to our house and observe how he will do. This way, they're sure that each and every rescue pet they have matches the need of the family and vice versa. At the same time, they could check the house if it's suitable for their animals needs. They're doing this to avoid families adopting the wrong pet and most often, the family ends up returning back the pet to them.

Here are some pictures of Lincoln. I'm praying hard that if he is really for us, that he and Skye could get along. Hope he would like me & sweeps too. Let's see if we could pass the 3rd stage.

Doggie toy, $5.
Doggie treats, $6.
Adoption fee, $150.
Giving a shelter dog a good loving home, priceless.

Cry for Unwanted Pets

This TV ad never fails to make me cry... sad isn't it?

Everyday, I try to check the Phoenix craigslist for unwanted pets that people, for some reason, are trying to get rid of. Man, how cold is that?!

Craigslist is a free online community for advertisement available in most cities here in the states. You can find almost everything in this forum. From furniture, houses, pets, name it, you'd find it there.

For most of these pets, their owners cannot take care of them anymore for tons of reasons: moving, had a new baby, owner got sick, etc etc. For me, it's just an excuse for most of them, but hey, what can I do? Exactly.

Not too long ago, I answered an ad from craigslist about this family who's going to move to UK in a few months and was looking for someone to take care of their dog. They can't bring her with them so they wanted to find her a loving home before they leave. They posted a picture of their pet and she's ok, she's not the cutest looking dog I've seen but for some reason, I got sweeps to agree to check her out. I'm just not sure why i wanted it so badly to meet the family and their dog. After meeting them for the first time, I already know that she's for us. Thus, we aptly adopted Skye. She's the most playful, sweetest, happiest dog I've ever met. She run towards us and gave us kisses like she've known us forever.

Skye's also a shelter dog before this family adopted her from the pound when she was a puppy. We also got to know that a few months back, they gave Skye to an elderly woman who promised that her grandson is going to take care of Skye. However, after a few weeks, they were contacted by the local pound confirming if they've lost a dog since Skye was given back to the pound. Poor Skye, good thing she's microchipped so her original family's information is just a scan away. Imagine, if nobody came and took her back from the pound, she could have been one of those who were not lucky enough to be given another chance to live.

Looking back, that's one of the best decisions sweeps & I had made. For over a year & a half now, Skye has been a part of our family.

Now that we have a bigger backyard, we have some extra room for another pet. Well, at least for me. I haven't convinced my husband yet. It's too much responsibility having another one. The thing is, there are countless dogs (and cats) that are being euthanized and abused every single day. Sometimes just without any reason, some cold-hearted people would just turn over their pets to the pound (and sometimes, kill shelters). These same loyal, loving pets who stood by them through thick and thin, suddenly being disliked by their humans. Argh. It breaks my heart everytime. Only if I can adopt everyone of them. That's why I wanted to help even just one poor soul out there who's about to be put down if nobody adopts them within a certain period of time :o(

I used to volunteer as a dog caretaker to the local humane society here in the Phoenix area. Back then, I was still living in an apartment so there's no way I could keep a dog with me (most apartment complex don't allow pets). So what I did is I just volunteered my weekends so I could help out in my own little way. I always have very high respect for non-profit groups who go out of their way to help unwanted animals. Being a dog caretaker, I can bring the dog assigned to me to wherever I want and make sure they could be seen in public so "potential" pet parents could see how good they are. I remembered I had to go to the kennel and see these poor guys waiting to be wanted and loved. Ok, enough! I dont want to cry

I am writing this hoping that I could find people who are like me who love animals and might want to share a piece of their homes to even just one pet waiting for the right family to come and rescue them.

Please, please, if you're considering to have a pet, pls don't get the ones from breeders nor those from the pet shops. There are tons of animals in the pound who, in every minute, march their way towards their end just because they're not wanted by their previous families anymore. Let's give these animals another chance to live and be loved. The insurmountable feeling of being able to help these animals are indeed priceless. Make sure you check your local humane society. Pls note that some of these kennels are indeed kill shelters. Pls pls pls, join me in my quest to do what we can do to help these animals. Thank you so much.
